Najib remains second most popular opposition leader, survey shows
He comes behind only Khairy Jamaluddin on the popularity and trustworthiness scale.
KUALA LUMPUR: A recent public opinion survey has revealed that Najib Razak remains the second most trusted and popular opposition leader despite the slew of charges against him, losing only to Khairy Jamaluddin on this scale.
The survey titled “Malaysian Opposition Parties Strategic Survey”, conducted by PR firm Citrine One Sdn Bhd in collaboration with digital marketing agency CALLMARK Solutions Sdn Bhd, involved 1,115 respondents nationwide.
Almost half (45%) of the survey respondents were aged 18 to 30 while the majority came from Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
Respondents picked the most popular opposition leaders based on factors such as oratory skills (17%), consistency (14%) and how vocal they are (33%).
Najib was rated highly in popularity and trustworthiness by 64% of respondents.
Khairy meanwhile received high scores on the same scale from 80% of respondents.
According to the survey, Umno is the most popular opposition party followed by PAS and MCA.
Seventy-four percent of respondents said they want opposition leaders to speak out about education, 72% about the cost of living and 67% about corruption.

Just over half (52%) of respondents said opposition parties seemed to speak mainly about their own interests while 29% felt they had an agenda to fulfil.
