Syed Saddiq cries sabotage as ‘Vote Muslim’ leaflets given at PH ceramah

PPBM Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman says what is stated in flyer is not the stance of Pakatan Harapan as race and religion should not matter.

PETALING JAYA: PPBM Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman says he suspects an element of sabotage after flyers with a “Vote Muslim First” tagline were distributed at a Pakatan Harapan (PH) ceramah tonight.

Syed Saddiq said he had checked with the organisers of the ceramah, adding that no one had any knowledge of the printing or distribution of the flyers.

“This is not the stance of PH. We suspect it’s sabotage.

“Our stance is: Vote for the candidate who brings development for Tanjung Piai, who fought against corruption. Race and religion should not matter.”

It was reported by Malaysiakini that the flyers were distributed at a mega ceramah in Kukup Laut, Johor, with the leaflets placed on top of more than 1,000 seats.

The leaflet depicts a red halal logo, accompanied by the words “Buy Muslim Products Campaign”, while also including background information on PH’s candidate Karmaine Sardini and past achievements of the late MP Dr Md Farid Md Rafik.

“When voting, it should be that when there is a Muslim and non-Muslim candidate, we choose the Muslim, no matter the party.

“When there is more than one Muslim candidate, we choose the biggest. So vote Bersatu. This follows the right principles,” the leaflet said.

The Buy Muslim First campaign first began on social media with the Bumiputera community urged to avoid buying products made by businesses owned by non-Bumiputeras.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad subsequently said he disagreed with the campaign, adding that such acts were by people with shallow thinking.
