PENAMPANG: Opposition party PBS has shot down a proposal to form an electoral pact with other Sabah parties, with its president Maximus Ongkili saying the time is not right to form alliances.

He said PBS would focus on strengthening its branches first before choosing an electoral partner.

“I am open to the idea. But I have to say it is still too early to form a pact. Maybe when it’s right, we will work with others,” he said after closing the PBS congress here today.

Ongkili said earlier that PBS has decided to put on the back-burner plans to set up a coalition called Gabungan Bersatu Sabah, alongside Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Sabah Star), Umno and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS).

During the congress, one of the delegates had proposed a pact with PBRS and Sabah Star.

Ongkili said when the time comes he wants a win-win partnership as the party is willing to share seats in areas where the party is not strong. However, PBS does not want to work with parties that wished to contest in all seats.
