KUALA LUMPUR: Police have hired an expert from the United States to verify the authenticity of a gay-sex video allegedly implicating Economic Affairs Minister Mohamad Azmin Ali and a former Sarawak PKR Youth leader.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Huzir Mohamed said they have already handed over the video clip, which was widely shared on social media earlier this year, and are now waiting for a report.

Huzir said that apart from verifying the authenticity of the video, the expert will also attempt to identify those involved in the clip.

“We will hand the report over to the attorney-general,” he told reporters here, adding that they will receive it before the year-end.

Huzir refused to divulge further details but said that the expert was from a university and had previously testified in court.

“If the case is brought to court, the expert may be summoned to testify. This is why the investigation is taking some time.”

Former PKR Santubong Youth leader Haziq Aziz had confessed to being one of the two men in the controversial video released in June. He named Azmin as the other person.

Azmin has strongly denied the claim, saying it was aimed at killing his political career.

Huzir also said that they had referred the investigation paper to the Attorney-General’s Chambers eight times.
