No disciplinary action against Azmin despite latest absence from PKR meeting

PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil says the party is willing to hear Mohamed Azmin Ali’s explanation for absenting himself from meetings.

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil says the party’s deputy president Azmin Ali will not face any disciplinary action for now despite failing to attend a political bureau meeting tonight.

Fahmi said the party will instead wait for Azmin to inform the party leadership on the meeting he had with about 20 BN MPs at his residence in Putrajaya on Monday night.

“We will wait for full information from him since he did not attend today’s meeting. So, we’ll have to wait for further information.

“The party will not issue any show-cause letter to Azmin yet,” he said when met by reporters in Parliament after the party’s political bureau meeting.

He said the party had been waiting for Azmin to attend all its meetings.

“We want him to come and explain. We have not set a time frame (before he faces disciplinary action). He should be coming for every party meeting.

“We suppose he had more important matters to attend to. Maybe the media can ask him about that,” he added.

When asked if Azmin had crossed the line by frequently missing meetings, Fahmi said the party maintained an open attitude and is willing to hear the deputy president’s explanation.

“I think we will still wait. We cannot see Azmin’s case the same way as other cases. We have to see each one on a case-by-case basis. I think that’s our approach,” he said, citing Khalid Ibrahim’s sacking from the party previously.

Prior to this, PKR president Anwar Ibrahim had said Azmin needed to attend this meeting today to explain what was discussed at his meeting with the 20 BN MPs on Monday night.

Anwar said he did not know the purpose of Azmin meeting the MPs, adding that it had “raised many questions among PKR’s friends”.

Yesterday, Azmin said he needed to check his schedule first before deciding on attending the party meeting.

He had maintained that there was nothing out of the ordinary regarding his meeting with the MPs, which was also attended by former Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein and several other PKR MPs.

Fahmi also stated that the Sarawak PKR Convention this Saturday will be held as scheduled.

On Nov 15, Sarawak PKR head Baru Bian had led a group of top Sarawak PKR leaders to cancel the state convention. stating that they did not agree with the move to rescind Mohamed Azmin Ali’s invitation to officiate the PKR Youth Convention on Dec 6.

Today, Baru said Sarawak PKR should enjoy autonomy in this matter.

National convention director Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad is expected to issue a statement on this, Fahmi said.
