A rebuke from Dr M for self-serving PPBM members

PPBM chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad said PPBM members should fight for the party to ensure all would benefit.

SHAH ALAM: Dr Mahathir Mohamad had bouquets and brickbats tonight for members of PPBM. The youth and women’s wings were praised for their contributions to the party, but the party chairman rebuked some in the main party for being more interested in strengthening their influence.

Mahathir gave warning to PPBM members to refrain from using the party as a tool to further their own political interests, stressing that they should instead fight for the party as a whole to ensure all would benefit.

While he praised the youth and women’s wings for their contribution to the party, he added that certain leaders outside those wings were more interested in strengthening their influence in the party.

“If we think this party gives us the chance to reach our own dreams, I’m confident that not just the individual but the party will also lose. As a political party, we must remember that the fight is for the party, not ourselves. If we fight for the party, all will enjoy the benefits.

“But if we fight for ourselves, the party will not benefit and we will not benefit too,” he said at a fundraising dinner for PPBM Youth here today.

He stressed that the youth wing is key in driving PPBM forward with its ideals and hopes for the party and nation, adding that if the party was successful, its members would be too.

He urged the youth wing, also known as Armada, to strive toward funding its own programmes and initiatives instead of relying on external funds.

“I think that it’s good to organise a fundraising dinner, but if we’re rich enough, we don’t need this. We can fund all our own expenditure, that helps us to be free.”
