AYER KEROH: Melaka PKR Youth secretary Rashid Abu Bakar has been elected as the new permanent chairman of the youth wing, replacing Mizan Adli Mohd Noor who was controversially sacked.

Meanwhile, Kedah PKR Youth secretary Wan Mohamad Syahezral Wan Shahidan was elected as Rashid’s deputy, replacing Mohd Ramly Ahmad who was dismissed alongside Mizan.

Pokok Sena division chief Mohd Shafiq Mohd Altab was the only other candidate for the permanent chairman post.

It was reported last month that PKR Youth had sent letters of dismissal to Mizan and Ramly, just days before the national congress, due to questions over their appointments.

The letters dated Nov 27 said the party would be terminating their positions as they were above 35. They were also said to have received more votes than the number of delegates who showed up at last year’s youth congress.

Both Mizan and Ramly said it was ridiculous to question their positions and votes a year after the 2018 convention and just days before the next one.

PKR Youth chief Akmal Nasir however supported their dismissal, saying the party’s constitution states that the youth wing’s members should be below 35 years of age. He also said the rules of the party must be upheld.
