Last day of PKR congress kicks off with song on ‘true friends’

PKR members hold up placards saying ‘Anwar 8th PM’.

AYER KEROH: PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and leaders aligned to him kicked off the last day of the party’s congress singing the popular Malay song “Teman Sejati” (True Friend) amid the absence of deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali and his allies.

Anwar and the PKR leaders stood on the stage and sang along with the crowd and singer Yasin Sulaiman.

Vice-president Tian Chua, who was present, did not go up the stage.

Yesterday, Tian Chua left with Azmin and fellow vice-presidents Zuraida Kamaruddin and Ali Biju and other leaders midway through the congress over provocative speeches by delegates.

Today, with the exception of Tian Chua, most of those who left yesterday did not turn up.

Later, in his speech, PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil paid tribute to Tian Chua for his contributions and sacrifices to the party for the past 20 years.

“Today he is with us, this is what we want,” he said to loud cheers from the crowd.
