PENAMPANG: A Sabah PPBM divisional leader has called for a reshuffle of the Warisan-led state Cabinet to include the party’s representatives.
Penampang PPBM chief John Ambrose noted that Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had hinted after Pakatan Harapan’s defeat in the Tanjung Piai by-election that there could be a federal Cabinet reshuffle soon.
He said Chief Minister Shafie Apdal should do the same and not wait for the forthcoming by-election in Kimanis, triggered by the Federal Court’s ruling that Anifah Aman’s win was null and void.
“By now, the chief minister should be able to assess his Cabinet members’ strength and weaknesses and act to form a stronger Cabinet,” he said at a Sabah PPBM leadership event here.
Ambrose said that although Warisan was not a Pakatan Harapan component party, Mahathir was generous enough to allocate it several high-ranking positions in the federal Cabinet for its efforts to topple the Barisan Nasional government during the last general election.
They include the appointment of Liew Vui Keong as minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Darrell Leiking as international trade and industry minister, and Mohammadin Ketapi as tourism minister.
“If our prime minister can allocate several ministerial positions for Warisan in the federal government, I do not see why our chief minister could not do the same for PPBM leaders in Sabah.
“If Shafie appoints PPBM leaders as ministers and assistant ministers, it will show that the Warisan government is sincere in wanting to work closely with PPBM in Sabah,” he said.
Among those at the event were Sabah PPBM chief Hajiji Noor, his deputy Masidi Manjun and PPBM Sabah youth chief Isquzawan Israq Arsit.
