Nasi kandar workers remanded 7 days over false police report

They had claimed that RM122,555 from their shop was taken by men wearing police vests and balaclavas.

GEORGE TOWN: Two nasi kandar shop workers were remanded for seven days by the Magistrate’s Court here today to facilitate investigations into claims that they lodged a false police report on a robbery.

Assistant registrar Muhammad Azam Md Eusoff issued the remand order from today until Dec 16 following an application by the police who are investigating the men under Section 182 of the Penal Code for providing false information to a public servant.

The men, an auditor and a cashier, both in their 40s, claimed their three-day collection from the shop – RM122,555 – was taken from them at knifepoint as they were going to the bank by motorcycle.

They said men wearing police vests and balaclavas took the bag of money and sped off on a bike. However, they later confessed that the money was hidden in a car. It was later recovered by the police.

Their 999 call saw multiple roadblocks set up around the area which brought traffic to a standstill on the island for many hours.
