Wan Azizah’s father dies

PETALING JAYA: Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s father, Wan Ismail Wan Mahmood, passed away early this morning.

According to Wan Azizah’s press secretary, Wan Ismail died at 2.30am today. He was 93.

His remains were brought to the Al Mustaqim mosque in Ampang, Selangor, at 9am, and then to the Ukay Perdana Muslim Cemetery for burial.

Wan Ismail is succeeded by his wife, Mariah Khamis, a son and four daughters including Wan Azizah.

Wan Azizah was present at the mosque together with her husband, PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, and their daughters Nurul Izzah Anwar and Nurul Illham.

Also at the mosque to pay their final respects were Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu, and Deputy Defence Minister Liew Chin Tong.

Among those who were at the mosque to pay their their last respects were Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu and his deputy, Senator Liew Ching Tong.

Others included Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Xavier Jayakumar, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Salahuddin Ayub, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng and Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad.
