No bad intention in ‘Malaysians vs Filipinos’ remark, says Tok Mat

Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan (left) says he did not mean anything bad when he made his ‘blue vs white shirts’ comment.

KIMANIS: Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan said today he had no bad intentions when making his “blue vs white shirts” comments on Jan 4.

He said he was only quoting an elderly man he met on the eve of nomination day.

“I was chatting with the uncle the night before nomination day and he told me, ‘Datuk, morning will be like Malaysian team in blue shirts vs Filipinos in white shirts’.

“That was all, I didn’t mean anything bad. I did not accuse (anyone) and I was only repeating what the man had said,” he said at a ceramah at Binsulok last night.

Warisan leader Mohd Shafie Apdal had earlier said he had instructed his lawyers to demand an apology from Mohamad or he would sue him for “insinuating” his party was a Filipino party.

Warisan, the dominant ruling party in Sabah, has been constantly attacked by Barisan Nasional and several others over the proposed Temporary Sabah Pass – the home ministry’s effort to resolve Sabah’s migrant woes.

The illegal immigrant issue is not new to Warisan as the party had been called a party of illegal immigrants by rivals, in an attack on Shafie’s ancestry.
