I take the blame for Warisan’s defeat in Kimanis, says Shafie

KOTA KINABALU: Warisan president Shafie Apdal has told supporters that he accepts responsibility for the party’s defeat in the Kimanis by-election and no one else is to be blamed.

“Don’t blame anyone for what happened in Kimanis – we take the responsibility,” he told reporters here today.

Shafie, who is also Sabah chief minister, also said that Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad was not responsible for the loss.

“Don’t blame Tun for this by-election defeat, he was not around.

“We can’t blame other people – we take charge. We were there, we campaigned there and have to accept the fact that we lost,” he said.

Barisan Nasional’s Mohamad Alamin polled 12,706 votes against Warisan candidate Karim Bujang’s 10,677 votes, obtaining a 2,029-vote majority in the by-election that was held last Saturday.

Yesterday, DAP’s Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh said that as the head of the government, Mahathir must shoulder the responsibility for Pakatan Harapan’s defeat in Kimanis.

Shafie said despite the Kimanis result, the government would still serve the people in Kimanis as promised during its campaign.

When asked if he was satisfied with Sabah PPBM’s participation in Warisan’s campaign, Shafie said: “We will have a post-mortem.”
