IPOH: Police have launched an internal investigation into a claim that robbers used a police pistol during a robbery at a hotel in Menglembu here last month.
Perak police chief Razarudin Hussain said an initial investigation found that the pistol was reported missing by a police corporal in Tanjung Rambutan on Jan 15.
“Investigation is also being done by the Police Department of Integrity and Standard Compliance on how the missing Walther P99 pistol was found and used by the two suspects in the robbery case,” he told reporters today.
He said at 4.10 am on Jan 24, two local men aged 20 and 27, armed with a pistol, were reported to have committed a robbery at the hotel’s reception counter and fled with cash of RM509.
He said no shot was fired and the police managed to arrest and seize the pistol from the two suspects in Sungai Senam less than an hour later.
Both men were charged under Sections 392 and 411 of the Penal Code and Section 8 of the Firearms (Heavy Penalties) Act 1971 on Feb 6.
