Viral photo of Guan Eng ‘chairing’ TH meeting an ‘attempt to spread hatred’, says PM’s Dept
The PM’s Department says the picture was actually taken when minister Mujahid Yusof Rawa and Jakim officials visited the finance minister to explain the concept of Islamic administration on Feb 18.
PETALING JAYA: The viral image of Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng “chairing” a Tabung Haji meeting is a deliberate attempt to spread racial and religious hatred in the country, said a statement from the Prime Minister’s Department.
It denied the claims made, saying “the allegations made are baseless and irresponsible”.
It further said that the 1995 Tabung Haji Act states that the minister in charge of Tabung Haji is the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department managing the affairs of Islam, and not the finance minister.
Minister Mujahid Yusof Rawa is in charge of Islamic affairs.
The statement clarified that the picture that went viral was actually taken during Mujahid’s visit with the Islamic Development Department Malaysia (Jakim) director-general and officials of Jakim’s Shariah Maqasid Division to the finance ministry to explain the concept of Rahmatan Lil’ Alamin Islamic administration on Feb 18.
It said a police report would be made by Special Officer II, Ali Muda, over the allegations.
