PUTRAJAYA: PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and several senior leaders of the Pakatan Harapan coalition today arrived at the Prime Minister’s Office hoping to meet Dr Mahathir Mohamad, only to find that the prime minister was not around.

They left about an hour later, FMT has learnt.

“They are now heading to Mahathir’s residence,” an aide to a minister told FMT.

Others at the PMO this morning were several members of the Cabinet including Anwar’s wife, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and PPBM Youth leader Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

They were also scheduled to attend a meeting by the National Development Council chaired by Mahathir at 11am today.

However, it is understood that all official meetings have been cancelled.

Anwar arrived at the PMO building at 9.36am, and emerged out of the compound an hour later at 10.26am, followed by the other PH leaders.

He is expected to have an audience with the Agong at Istana Negara this afternoon.

Yesterday, leaders from PPBM, PAS, Umno and those aligned to PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali had gathered at a hotel in Petaling Jaya amid intense speculation a shift in political loyalties would be announced.

Separately, supporters of PKR president Anwar Ibrahim held a prayer session at his home in Bukit Segambut, where he lashed out at attempts to betray Pakatan Harapan.
