KUALA LUMPUR: Nine PKR MPs, including two federal ministers, have announced quitting their party, just minutes after the sacking of deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali and vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin.
They will form a new independent block, which will include Azmin and Zuraida, in the Dewan Rakyat, according to a statement.
Azmin is the Gombak MP while Zuraida is the Ampang MP.
The nine are Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah (Indera Mahkota), Works Minister Baru Bian (Selangau), as well as Kamaruddin Jaffar (Bandar Tun Razak), Mansor Othman (Nibong Tebal), Rashid Hasnon (Batu Pahat), Santhara Kumar (Segamat), Ali Biju (Saratok), Willie Mongin (Puncak Borneo) and Jonathan Yasin (Ranau).
The 11 MPs are all aligned to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad who has just submitted his resignation letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Azmin and Zuraida were among the PKR leaders who gathered with PPBM, Umno, PAS, MCA and MIC MPs at a hotel here last night, fueling speculations that a new coalition will form the federal government.
That event led to PKR sacking Azmin and Zuraida today.
