PETALING JAYA: Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Mohd Rashid Hasnon says he had no choice but to accept the postponement of the next Dewan Rakyat sitting as it was Putrajaya’s call.
Speaking to FMT, he said rescheduling the sitting from March 9 to May 18 was not an option.
“I have no choice. I have to agree because it is an instruction. The rules are such that the date comes from the executive.
“The respective ministers have to be present (in the Dewan Rakyat) to provide answers.”
Rashid added that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin would need to complete his Cabinet by May 18 so that Dewan Rakyat proceedings can go smoothly.
Earlier today, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Mohd Ariff Md Yusof said the parliamentary sitting would begin on May 18 following the change of government.
On whether there would be a change of speakers and deputy speakers, Rashid said he could not comment as this would be determined by the prime minister and the speaker.
Another deputy Dewan Rakyat speaker, Nga Kor Ming, has yet to respond to requests for comments.
