PM appoints former pol sec as chief private secretary

PETALING JAYA: The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has announced the appointment of Marzuki Mohamad as the chief private secretary to Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

In a statement, the PMO said Marzuki’s appointment is effective March 1.

Marzuki, 46, has worked for Muhyiddin since 2009 when he was appointed the then-deputy prime minister’s special officer.

He has a law degree from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), a political science degree from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, and a PhD in political science from the Australian National University.

Marzuki also served as Muhyiddin’s political secretary when the latter was education minister from 2013 to 2015.

He then served as an associate professor at IIUM’s political science department before eventually heading it.

He returned to work for Muhyiddin as his special duties officer in 2018 when the Pagoh MP was appointed home minister.
