RoS bans all events by organisations until June 30

The Registrar of Societies says the directive applies to all levels in an organisation, including branches.

PETALING JAYA: The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has barred all organisations from holding any events between now and June 30 over Covid-19 concerns.

It said they include programmes, activities, meetings and assemblies and general assemblies.

RoS said this directive is in line with the government’s instructions and applies to all levels in an organisation, including branches.

“This special instruction is issued in line with the registrar’s powers under Section 3A of the Societies Act 1966,” it said in a statement.

The RoS said if the Covid-19 situation did not improve by June 30, organisations would need to apply for an extension for any events which need to be held by certain dates.

“This application for an extension is to avoid abuse of the laws governing societies by registered organisations,” it said.

A record high of 190 new Covid-19 cases were reported till noon yesterday, bringing the total to 428 cases in Malaysia.
