430,000 in Sarawak to receive cash aid from this month

Chief Minister of Sarawak Abang Johari Openg.

KUCHING: About 430,000 Sarawakians in the B40 group will receive financial assistance of RM250 each under the “Sarawakku Sayang” package starting this month.

State secretary Jaul Samion said today those eligible were already on the Cost of Living Aid (BSH) recipients list approved by the Inland Revenue Board in January.

The money will be deposited into the accounts of those who had registered their bank accounts on the 15th day of the month from April until September.

“For those who do not have any bank account, the monetary aid will be channelled via the nearest state treasury branch in two phases,” he said, adding that there were more than 23,000 people who did not have bank accounts.

The first phase would be from April 15 to 30 and the second from Aug 15 to 30.

Last month, Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg had announced a RM1.15 billion special assistance package to mitigate the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the economy and reduce the burden of the people.
