KUALA LUMPUR: The immigration department conducted a raid for foreigners today in the area surrounding the Kuala Lumpur wholesale or Selayang wholesale market.
The raid began at 9am, involving personnel from the police, the armed forces and the health ministry.
Several trucks belonging to the police and the immigration department left the area at about 11.30am. They were believed to be taking illegal immigrants to a temporary detention depot.
When contacted, immigration director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud said the department would issue a statement soon.
Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim said police had been present at the location to assist the immigration department in the operation.
