KUALA LUMPUR: Kedah state executive councillor Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail has been appointed chairman of the Kedah Regional Development Authority from June 1.
His appointment was announced by the rural development minister Abdul Latiff Ahmad today. The Kedah development authority is a federal agency under the ministry’s purview.
Ku Abd Rahman, a member of PPBM, is the assemblyman for Guar Chempadak. He was appointed a member of the state executive council last week when a new state government was formed after the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government led by Mukhriz Mahathir.
He had previously been with Umno for 45 years and left Umno in November 2018 to be an independent. Three weeks later, he joined PPBM.
Earlier this month, he was among 19 state assemblymen, including 4 from PPBM, who declared they had lost confidence in Mukhriz as menteri besar.
Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, who is the Jeneri assemblyman, took office as menteri besar on May 17, heading a Perikatan Nasional government.
The previous government lost its majority in the state assembly with the defection of two PKR assemblymen, to a bloc formed by PAS (15 seats), PPBM (4), BN (2) which holds 26 seats in the 36-member assembly.
