PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional by-election director Najib Razak, in hailing the coalition’s success at the Chini by-election, has highlighted the support from PAS leaders as contributing to the BN victory.

In an online posting minutes after the BN victory was announced tonight, he named PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, as well as the entire PAS leadership team and PAS members.

“Especially our allies, the PAS machinery in Pahang. From dawn to midnight I was with them,” said Najib.

He said today’s by-election victory showed that the Muafakat Nasional alliance of Umno and PAS had grown beyond mutual understanding and cooperation into a close family relationship.

In addition, this year there was the support of PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin and other senior leaders, and that of grassroot PPBM members in Pekan.

Najib also thanked the BN election machinery and Chini voters.

Chini is a state constituency that forms part of his Pekan parliamentary seat. Najib noted that the Chini success was part of a chain of by-election victories that included Cameron Highlands, Semenyih, Rantau, Tanjung Piai, and Kimanis.

“The people have spoken,” he said. “One step at a time.”
