Selangor MB sacks Haniza Talha from exco post

Former PKR Wanita chief Haniza Talha’s removal as exco member has been approved by the Sultan of Selangor.

PETALING JAYA: Former PKR Wanita chief Haniza Talha has been sacked from her post as a Selangor executive councillor.

Haniza was recently sacked from the party but had told FMT she had not faced pressure to relinquish her post.

In a statement, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said today would be her last day in office.

The decision to give Haniza the boot, he said, was made two days ago and was in line with PKR’s decision to sack the Lembah Jaya assemblyman on June 28.

Amirudin said her removal as the housing and urban living committee chairman was approved by Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

“Her portfolio will be overseen by me and any related programmes will be postponed for the time being,” he said.

Amirudin thanked Haniza for her contributions.

Before her sacking from PKR, she had been suspended from April 6 for holding a meeting with former deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali and former vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur in February.

Last month, she launched a new NGO, Nation of Women (NOW), which she is the president. It will serve as a new platform for PKR members who have been sacked.

When contacted, Haniza said she had expected to be sacked from her post.

“The menteri besar is merely following the PKR president’s orders,” she said.

Haniza went on to thank Amirudin for giving her the opportunity to serve the people of Selangor.
