PETALING JAYA: A former CEO of FGV Holdings Berhad (FGV) left Amanah to join Umno today, saying his former party’s vision was no longer consistent with his personal stand.

Zakaria Arshad, who served as FGV’s group president and CEO from April 1, 2016 to Sept 18, 2018, said internal issues in Amanah have also affected the party’s progress.

“After due consideration, I believe Umno, which is a component of the Perikatan Nasional government, is the best platform for me to continue my small contribution to the community and country.

“With this, I announce that I am leaving Amanah and am joining Umno as a member,” he said at PWTC today, according to Sinar Harian.

His membership form was handed over to Supreme Council member Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, who said Zakaria joining Umno will further strengthen the party based on his experience in various fields.

“We welcome anyone who wants to be with Umno. If we want to strengthen the party, we have to be open to receive anyone,” he said.
