Car repossessor held after viral assault video

KOTA KINABALU: A man, said to be a car repossessor, has been detained by police here for road rage after a video of him allegedly beating up a man went viral from yesterday.

The 35-year-old man, known as Lunchai, was arrested in his home at Taman Sempelang at 11.30 last night, hours after the incident which took place at Api-Api Centre.

City police chief Habibi Majinji said police had gone to the suspect’s house after the victim, who suffered injuries to the head and body, filed a complaint.

“The suspect was arrested in the clothes he was wearing when the incident took place (in the video),” he told reporters today.

“We also seized the motorcycle he used during the attack.”

Habibi said the suspect was known to be aggressive and was previously involved in 16 criminal cases involving drugs, theft and causing hurt.

The video showed the suspect assaulting a man despite the latter appearing to be remorseful.

At one point, the suspect was seen kicking the victim while he was on the ground after being earlier floored by the man’s blow to the face.
