PUTRAJAYA: The health ministry today announced one new Covid-19-related death, bringing the total number of deaths to 125.
In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced 12 new cases, bringing the total number of cases recorded to 8,976.
Noor Hisham said the deceased was a 64-year-old Filipino who had a history of heart disease.
The patient developed a fever, cough and breathing complications on July 25 but did not seek treatment.
The patient was found unconscious on July 29 and was brought to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, but was pronounced dead. Tests later revealed the patient had Covid-19.
Meanwhile, a total of 27 recoveries were recorded over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 8,644, or 96.3% of the total number of infections.
Three patients are still in the intensive care unit, with one needing respiratory assistance.
Noor Hisham also said that seven of the 12 new cases were local infections while the other five were imported.
Of the seven local cases, five are locals. Two of the new local infections are from the Person Under Investigation (PUI) Sivagangga cluster in Kedah.
Noor Hisham said 262 people were tested in relation to the PUI Sivagangga cluster, with eight having tested positive, three still awaiting results and 251 testing negative.
