Cleanup action for Slim, ahead of by-election

Sanitisation operations will be carried out at food premises and other areas in preparation for the Slim by-election.

IPOH: The Perak Fire and Rescue Department will be implementing Covid-19 safety measures for the Slim state by-election.

Azmi Osman, director of the department, said among the steps to be taken was providing advisory service on safety issues to hotels and homestays in the Slim state constituency and the surrounding areas.

“We will focus on areas namely, Tanjung Malim, Slim River and Bidor,” he told reporters today, adding they would also carry out sanitisation operations at public places in several key locations such as food premises to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

The Slim by-election was called following the death of assemblyman Mohd Khushairi Abdul Talib on July 15.

The Election Committee has set Aug 15 for nominations, with early voting on Aug 25 and polling on Aug 29.

At the 2018 general election, Khusairi, representing Barisan Nasional, was re-elected in Slim for a fourth term by a majority of 2,183 votes. He defeated Mohd Amran Ibrahim of PPBM and Muhammad Zulfadli Zainal of PAS.
