KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PKR will decide on its list of candidates and seats for the coming election next week, its state chairman Christina Liew said.
She said the list would be submitted to caretaker chief minister Shafie Apdal, who is the Warisan president, once it has been finalised by the Sabah PKR election bureau.
PKR, a Pakatan Harapan (PH) member, is part of the Warisan-led state government which came to power after the 14th general election in 2018.
After a meeting with PKR grassroots supporters here today, Liew said the party expected to receive nominations from throughout the state in the next few days. She would not say if it was fielding new faces.
She said PKR contested eight seats in GE14 and won two – in Inanam and Api-Api – and hoped to win three more this time around.
She said Sabah PKR would continue to cooperate with Warisan and Upko to prepare for the election, which she described as challenging.
Asked to comment on Inanam assemblyman Kenny Chua’s defection to former chief minister Musa Aman’s team, Liew said she was disappointed but his action would not have an impact on PKR.
Sabah PKR deputy chairman Mustapha Sakmud also reminded party members not to work with Chua, a former party vice-president.
The state assembly was dissolved on Thursday and an election must be held within 60 days.
