KUANTAN: Police have suggested restricting the number of visitors to Teluk Cempedak here, especially on weekends, to ensure compliance with the SOP on physical distancing.

Kuantan district police chief Mohamad Noor Yusof Ali said this is necessary considering the congestion on the beach, as witnessed by the huge crowd yesterday.

He said police had to turn back many visitors as they pushed their way to the beach and told them to come back again on another day.

“Although they wore face masks, the presence of too many people made it difficult for them to exercise physical distancing,” he told reporters today.

Mohamad Noor said he would raise the matter with the authorities, including the Kuantan Municipal Council.

He also said police would continue to conduct patrols at other public areas in Kuantan, including the market, to ensure compliance with the SOP.

“We will conduct surprise checks at bus terminals and put up more roadblocks,” he said.
