PETALING JAYA: A PKR Youth leader has called for Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Warisan to distribute seats among the parties equally in the coming Sabah state election.
PKR Youth secretary Ahmad Syukri Che Ab Razab said no party should think it is dominant in the state as it will affect the coalition’s chances of remaining in power.
“The distribution of seats has to be equal with the spirit of camaraderie being prioritised,” he said.
Syukri said it would be difficult to negotiate seats if any party felt it was more dominant than the others and deserved more seats.
In the last general election, PKR contested eight state seats, winning two, while DAP contested seven seats and won six.
Warisan, which leads the PH Plus coalition in the state, contested 45 seats and won 21.
Syukri said if any party were to get more seats then the rest, it must be a decision based on camaraderie and practicality to ensure victory.
The Sabah assembly was dissolved on Thursday, paving the way for an election, which must be held before Sept 29.
Syukri, who welcomed fresh polls to resolve the political crisis in the state, said PKR would propose young candidates.
“PKR Youth will propose quality candidates with principles to prevent another betrayal of the people’s mandate,” he said.
