PUTRAJAYA: The ceiling price of face masks may be further lowered after it is reduced to RM1.20 from RM1.50 from Aug 15, said Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi.
He said the price reduction was decided two weeks before the government made it mandatory for everyone to wear one from Aug 1 while using public transport and in crowded places.
His ministry would monitor the state of supplies at the production, import and retail stages and determine the appropriate maximum price reduction, he said today.
He said the ministry had gazetted a ban on the export of face masks to ensure there is sufficient supply to meet current demand.
