Contractors warned after housing project delayed for 15 years

Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin says contractors may lose their jobs if they do not complete their projects on time.

TUARAN: Stern action, including contract termination, will be taken against contractors who fail to complete projects under the housing and local government ministry within the stipulated period.

Its minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said a new unit under the supervision of the ministry’s deputy secretary-general would be set up to monitor all projects, especially housing.

“I was surprised that there was a housing project that was delayed for 15 years. As such, we have to monitor and impose stern action against contractors who fail to complete the projects on time, including terminating their contract,” she said after visiting the construction site of the Gayang II People’s Housing Project (PPR) near here today.

Zuraida also urged contractors involved in PPR projects to instal closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) at construction sites to deter vandalism, littering and crime.
