20 new infections, as new cluster in Kedah detected
The health ministry also says seven people recovered in the last 24 hours.
PETALING JAYA: The health ministry this evening confirmed 20 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours and the detection of a new cluster in Kedah.
With the latest infections, involving 13 local transmissions and seven imported cases, the total number of cases has reached 9,149.
Eleven of the local transmissions come from the Tawar cluster, with 10 from Kedah and one from Penang, while, a new cluster, dubbed the Muda cluster, recorded one new case. There are a total of two cases from the cluster. One case involves severe acute respiratory infection.
Meanwhile, the imported cases involve six Malaysians and a foreigner.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said only seven were discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 8,828.
The number of active cases now stands at 196, with four patients being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU), with one needing respiratory assistance.
No new casualties were recorded, with the death toll remaining at 125.
Noor Hisham went on to reveal that the latest infection from the Muda cluster involved a police officer, who is a colleague of the index case.
“We carried out an active case detection and have traced 124 of the individual’s close contacts. Two tested positive, while 117 are awaiting results,” he said in a statement.
On the Tawar cluster, Noor Hisham said as of 12 noon today, 261 individuals had been screened.
Of the number, 21 tested positive, while 88 are still waiting for results.
