YouTuber told to submit official letter to drop case against husband

IPOH: The Sessions Court here today set Sept 8 for mention of the case involving the husband of YouTuber S Pavithra, M Sugu, who was charged with possession of an offensive weapon in public and causing injury to his wife.

Judge Norashima Khalid set the date after deputy public prosecutor Liyana Zawani Mohd Radzi asked Pavithra, 28, to write an official letter for the prosecution to discontinue the case against her husband.

Pavithra was given until then to submit the letter.

Sugu, 29, pleaded not guilty to the charges on July 24.

The former estate worker was accused of assaulting Pavithra with a mobile phone and a sickle, causing injury to her lips, left cheek and right arm at the parking lot of the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here between 4pm and 6pm on July 21.

The charge, under Section 324 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same law, carries a jail term of up to 10 years, a fine or whipping, or any two of these punishments upon conviction.

Pavithra lodged a police report at the Sungai Senam police station but withdrew it on July 22.

Sugu was also charged with carrying a sickle at the parking area of the hospital at about 6pm on July 21.

The offence, under Section 6 (1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years upon conviction.

Liyana, when met by reporters after the proceeding, said the prosecution would refer the case to the state prosecution director after receiving the letter from Pavithra, who was represented by lawyer S Sundarajan.
