KOTA KINABALU: A Sabah PKR leader has slammed a party colleague for using the autonomy issue to question the decision by the state PKR leadership council and president Anwar Ibrahim over which logo to use for the state election.
Commenting on remarks over the logo by state PKR leadership council (MPN) vice-chairman John Ghani, Sabah PKR information chief Simsudin Sidek claimed the decision to use the party logo for the election was decided at the state MPN meeting on Aug 20.
He said Anwar had announced that Sabah PKR would be using its own symbol following a unanimous decision at that meeting.
“The meeting was chaired by (Sabah PKR chief) Christina Liew who is the Sabah MPN chairman and was held specifically to discuss the logo usage for the state election,” he said in a statement here today.
He added the meeting was attended by almost all the MPN members as well as division leaders.
“For the record, John did not attend the meeting. With that, his earlier statement in the media was more his own personal remark and not one from the Sabah PKR state leadership council.
“This clearly refutes the claim that Anwar does not understand the sentiments in Sabah or issues over autonomy as alleged by John,” Simsudin said.
Ghani had last week said that Sabah PKR wanted autonomy to decide on which logo to use for the coming state election, which came after Anwar had announced that the party had decided to contest under its own logo in the snap election.
Ghani had urged the party’s headquarters to consider giving Sabah PKR the autonomy to decide on this matter.
