KUALA LUMPUR: Former transport minister Loke Siew Fook today said he had pictures of Umno leaders including ex-prime minister Najib Razak riding motorcycles without helmets.
He said Najib had been wearing a songkok instead of a helmet while campaigning for the Slim by-election.
“He can campaign but he should wear a helmet. I am concerned he may fall and hurt himself,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat during the debate on the Road Transport (Amendment) Bill 2020 which seeks to reduce reckless driving among Malaysians.
Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim (BN-Baling) defended Najib, saying the latter had been going to a nearby mosque.
“Don’t make this an issue. I was there too. We went for Friday prayers,” Azeez said.
Loke also claimed that Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (BN-Bagan Datuk), Reezal Merican Naina Merican (BN-Kepala Batas) and Annuar Musa (BN-Ketereh) had been without helmets, showing several pictures as proof.
“I will be sending these pictures to the Road Transport Department. Send summonses to them,” he said, adding that there was no need to fear repercussions as Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had said that no one was above the law.
Loke also urged the government to ensure that the law is enforced fairly on all Malaysians, including ministers and MPs, when the transport bill is passed.
