PETALING JAYA: Umno and PAS have officially accepted PPBM into Muafakat Nasional (MN), Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Annuar Musa announced today.
He said the matter was discussed in an MN steering committee meeting chaired by the two parties’ presidents on Aug 6.
Annuar said Umno’s political bureau had discussed PPBM’s request to join the alliance with the chairmen of each state BN chapter and state Umno liaison.
He said that Umno’s priority was in uniting the Malays, adding that it was based on this principle that the party agreed on PPBM joining MN.
“With their participation, Umno wishes to see the unity of the Malay people grow stronger, in line with the MN charter that has been enshrined before this,” he said in a statement today.
Annuar, who is also MN joint secretary-general, said the coalition was being widely accepted by all races, citing the by-elections the alliance has won since its formation.
