PETALING JAYA: The health ministry reported 20 new Covid-19 infections today, 17 of which were local transmissions and three imported cases.
Kedah recorded nine cases, eight of which were from the Sungai cluster, while Sabah recorded eight infections.
One death was also reported in Kedah. This brings the death toll to 130, or 1.28% of total cases.
The deceased was an 82-year-old Malaysian man who had suffered from a stroke previously and had difficulty moving on his own.
He was a close contact of his child and grandchild who were positive cases from the Sungai cluster. He died yesterday at 5.45pm.
In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 51 patients have recovered, bringing the total number discharged to 9,315.
The new cases today bring the cumulative number of Covid-19 infections to 10,167.
There are currently 722 active cases, with 12 in the intensive care unit and two requiring respiratory assistance.
The three imported cases today involved two Malaysians and a foreigner who entered the country from New Zealand, Qatar and India.
The one sporadic case in Kedah was detected in a Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) patient at Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah.
Only two of the cases in Sabah today were linked to the Benteng LD and the new Bakau cluster.
Three cases were detected from referral screenings from Hospital Semporna at Hospital Tawau, which also comprised two foreigners. A SARI patient at Hospital Tawau was also detected with the virus.
One case was detected during pre-operation screening at Hospital Keningau and another was detected during community screenings in Tawau.
