UOB branch in KL closed after Covid-19 case detected

Photos of health authorities outside the UOB branch in Kepong have been circulating on social media since reports of the closure went viral.

PETALING JAYA: The United Overseas Bank (UOB) temporarily closed its Kepong branch in Kuala Lumpur from today to disinfect the premises after one of its employees tested positive for Covid-19 after returning from Sabah.

In a statement, UOB said the branch will reopen when it has received the necessary clearance from health authorities.

The employee, a mortgage specialist based at the branch, had been in Lahad Datu and Semporna, Sabah from Sept 10 to Sept 13.

“We have conducted contact tracing and all colleagues and customers who came into close contact with the confirmed case will be notified by the end of the day.

“They are being asked to self-quarantine for 14 days while they monitor their health and await further instructions from the authorities. We are working closely with the health authorities on any further follow-up measures that may be required,” the bank said.
