PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Annuar Musa today said the idea of an “urgent general election” should be considered amid claims of infighting between the former ruling coalition and its allies.
“The option of urgently seeking a mandate from the people (through snap polls) should be considered,” he tweeted today.
Annuar, who is an Umno Supreme Council member, also said parties (which are part of the government) should discuss matters behind closed doors rather than quarrel in the media.
“This is the time to refine our strategy and strengthen our cooperation. The Sabah election offers many lessons.”
In the run-up to the Sabah election, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin raised the possibility of early elections should Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) win the Sabah election.
GRS, which comprises BN, Perikatan Nasional and Parti Bersatu Sabah went on to win the election.
Ties between Umno and PPBM in particular have been strained in recent weeks, more so after it was revealed that many Umno MPs were supportive of PKR president Anwar Ibrahim’s bid to topple the Muhyiddin-led administration.
