Immigration postpones entry of foreign students

The Immigration Department has urged foreign students to put off their flights as in-person registration had been postponed.

PETALING JAYA: The Immigration Department today said that all admissions of new and existing foreign students will be postponed until Dec 31.

In a statement today, Immigration Department director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud said this included students whose applications had earlier been approved by it.

“This delay is in line with the decision by the higher education ministry on Oct 2 to postpone physical registration and classes for the October intake of university students.”

He also said the Immigration Department was given to understand that the ministry had consulted airlines on the rescheduling of flights for international students.

The ministry had come under fire for a last-minute notice postponing in-person registration. Higher Education Minister Noraini Ahmad said this became necessary due to the sudden spike in Covid-19 cases.
