Record high 691 Covid-19 cases, 4 deaths
397 cases are from the Tembok cluster in Kedah.
PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has again reported triple-digit Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, with a record-high of 691 new cases, comprising 688 local transmissions and three imported cases.
This brings the total number of positive cases to 13,504.
There are currently 2,936 active cases, with 31 in intensive care and eight needing respiratory assistance.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also reported four deaths, bringing the total number to 141.
According to the director-general, 397 cases are from the Tembok cluster in Kedah, while 219 cases are in Sabah.
He added that there were 87 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 10,427.
On the four new deaths, Noor Hisham said three were in Sabah and one in Penang.
A one-year-old girl (death number 140) died at 4.25pm on Monday. According to the DG, the girl initially received emergency treatment at Hospital Semporna last Thursday, Oct 1.
“Her health deteriorated, resulting in her requiring respiratory assistance. Her Covid-19 test returned positive on Monday,” he said.
Meanwhile, death number 138 involved a 60-year-old Malaysian man who was admitted to Hospital Duchess of Kent in Sandakan on Sept 25. He tested positive the next day.
His health deteriorated and he died at 6.50am on Sunday.
Another death (death number 139) involving a 60-year-old Malaysian man also added to the tally today.
The man had received emergency treatment at Hospital Semporna on Sept 1. He tested positive for Covid-19 last Wednesday and died at 5.05am on Sunday.
Death number 141 was an 85-year-old Malaysian man with a history of high blood pressure and mental health complications.
He was found unconscious at 7am on Monday and was taken to Penang Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 7.50am. The deceased was later found to be Covid-19 positive.
