Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Annuar Musa said the emergency meeting was necessary to “discuss current political developments, including the issue in Perak”.
There is heightened political tension in Perak following the “ouster” of PPBM deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu as the menteri besar.
“It is important that we handle all the disarray together,” Annuar said.
Following his audience with the Perak Sultan this morning, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said there might be a possibility of forming a coalition with other parties to make up the new state government.
He said this could include joining hands with those from opposition Pakatan Harapan (PH) parties, which includes its arch rival, DAP.
Zahid and Annuar’s comments come after Faizal was ousted as Perak menteri besar through a vote of confidence in the state assembly on Friday.
He was defeated 48 votes to 10, with one abstaining.
Faizal handed in his resignation letter during his audience with the Sultan yesterday. This was accepted together with those of his exco members.
Following Faizal’s ouster, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan declared it will not be part of the new Perak government.
He said all three of the party’s assemblymen had supported Faizal during the motion.
