8 new Covid-19 clusters detected

They involve Selangor, Sabah, KL, Johor, Perak and Pahang.

The new clusters are Puncak Galaksi, Bukit Punai, Permai, Matahari, Laut construction site, Cahaya Mahsuri, Seri Tasik and Inten.

The health ministry has detected eight new Covid-19 clusters in the country over the last 24 hours.

In a press conference today, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said they are the Puncak Galaksi cluster in Selangor, the Bukit Punai cluster in Sabah, the Permai, Matahari and Laut construction site clusters in Kuala Lumpur, Cahaya Mahsuri cluster in Johor, Seri Tasik cluster in Perak and Inten cluster in Pahang.

Noor Hisham said the Puncak Galaksi cluster involved Kuala Selangor and Klang in Selangor.

The positive cases were detected following targeted screenings at a warehouse since Dec 14. As of today, Noor Hisham said 541 individuals had been screened, with 56 testing positive.

The index case for the Bukit Punai cluster, involving Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, was found positive after the patient was screened before getting admitted to a hospital ward on Dec 11.

So far, 32 people have been screened and seven of them were found to be positive.

Meanwhile, the positive cases for the Permai construction site cluster, involving Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur, were detected from Dec 16 through targeted screenings at construction sites.

So far, 1,087 individuals have been screened, with 48 positive cases.

Similarly, the Matahari construction site cluster, involving Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur, was detected through targeted construction site screenings carried out since Dec 12.

As of today, Noor Hisham said 778 people had been screened, with 15 testing positive.

The Laut construction site cluster involved Lembah Pantai, Kepong and Cheras in Kuala Lumpur. The positive cases were first detected through targeted construction site screenings from Dec 3.

A total of 542 people have been screened, with eight positive cases.

The Cahaya Mahsuri cluster affecting Johor Bahru, Kota Tinggi and Pontian in Johor was detected after the index patient was found positive during symptomatic screening on Dec 8.

A total of 154 patients have been screened, with 32 testing positive for Covid-19.

The Seri Tasik cluster meanwhile involved Perak Tengah and Kinta in Perak. It was first detected when an individual tested positive during pre-surgical screening on Dec 2.

A total of 27 people have been screened, with seven positive cases.

On the last cluster, Noor Hisham said that the Inten cluster from Kuantan, Pahang, was first detected after an individual was found positive on Dec 10 following symptomatic screening.

There have been nine positive cases from the cluster so far, with a total of 204 people screened.
