Emulate Perak and give equal grants to all, Sabah urged

PKR's Christina Liew says equal allocations for assemblymen will show the GRS to be an inclusive administration.

Sabah PKR chief Christina Liew says political differences should be put aside in order to achieve the main goal of helping the people.
KOTA KINABALU:
The Sabah government should follow the example set by Perak and provide all elected representatives with equal special Covid-19 allocations, Api-Api assemblyman Christina Liew said.

Liew, the Sabah PKR chief, said political differences should be put aside in order to achieve the main goal of helping the people, who have been affected by the ongoing conditional movement control order and third wave of Covid-19.

“The Perak government had announced (in March) that allocations under the Covid-19 fund totalling RM1.18 million will be distributed evenly to all 59 assemblymen, including those in the opposition.

“They are each getting RM20,000 to help their constituents, who need help in these challenging times,” she said while debating the state’s budget at the state assembly here today.

Liew also urged the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah government to emulate Johor in distributing even development allocations for all assemblymen, saying this would prove that the state government was an inclusive one.

She called on the state government to increase its prevention measures to control the Covid-19 situation in the state, adding that a long-term strategy was needed to manage the pandemic.

“We also hope the federal government will ensure a sufficient supply of vaccines for Sabahans,” she added.
