KUALA LUMPUR: The last person to be discharged from hospital following the light rail transit (LRT) crash last month went home yesterday.
In his Facebook post today, transport minister Wee Ka Siong said the 31-year-old woman will continue to undergo rehabilitation under specialist care in Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
Last Thursday, a 52-year-old man who was severely injured in the crash also completed his treatment in HKL and will continue with rehabilitation.
“Both victims suffered quite severe brain injury and were saved by the medical specialists at HKL’s neurosurgery department, led by Dr Azmi Alias,” said Wee.
He said families of both victims expressed their gratitude to Azmi.
Last month, two LRT trains on the Kelana Jaya line crashed in an underground tunnel between the Kampung Baru and KLCC stations.
One train was empty except for the driver while the other had 213 passengers. Forty-seven passengers suffered serious injuries while 166 sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Wee said he also spoke to the family of a 26-year-old woman who is now back at home in Parit Buntar, Perak and undergoing rehabilitation.
Another victim who was transferred to a private health facility in Damansara is also home after jaw surgery and is currently undergoing physiotherapy.
Wee expressed his gratitude to the “unsung heroes” in HKL.
“I don’t know what to say except terima kasih and thank you. Only God can repay your good deeds,” he said, adding that he hoped the victims would heal completely and quickly.
