PETALING JAYA: A 19-year-old woman decided to check on her 21-year-old husband’s mobile phone while they were talking about their family finances.
It turned out to be a bad call.
She sustained multiple injuries after the fight that ensued at their home in Taman Kosas, Ampang in Kuala Lumpur, said police.
The woman suffered injuries to her arms as well as knees after falling following a struggle with the husband at 4am last Friday.
The husband, who works as a delivery man, had just returned home when the wife wanted to check the phone, Berita Harian reported.
Ampang Jaya police chief Mohamad Farouk Eshak said initial investigations found that the couple were talking about household expenses when the woman attempted to grab her husband’s phone.
“The victim wanted to check the phone but the husband stopped her from taking it. That was when a quarrel ensued and in the subsequent struggle, the woman was injured after falling down,” he told the Malay daily.
“The woman’s mother who lived nearby eventually separated the couple. They were married last October.”
Farouk said the suspect was picked up at 9.30pm yesterday after the victim lodged a police report. The man has been remanded for four days for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Ampang Jaya police have also detained a 28-year-old man for threatening to kill his own mother with a pair of scissors.
According to Farouk, the incident occurred at 7pm on Monday when the suspect, who has 14 previous criminal convictions, was believed to be under the influence of drugs.
In addition to threatening to harm his 54-year-old mother, he said, the suspect also uttered profanities at the woman besides claiming she was not his mother.
