KOTA KINABALU: Former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s wife, Noorainee Abdul Rahman and former national badminton champion Lee Chong Wei are among the 1,299 recipients of state awards in conjunction with the 68th birthday celebration of the Sabah governor Juhar Mahiruddin tomorrow.
Noorainee is among seven recipients to be conferred the state’s highest award, the Seri Panglima Darjah Kinabalu (SPDK), which carries the title Datuk Seri Panglima.
Others are deputy chief minister and Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin, Sabah Bersatu women’s chief and Beaufort MP Azizah Mohd Dun, former chief minister Chong Kah Kiat, Parti Bersatu Sabah deputy president Yee Moh Chai, chief secretary to the government Mohd Zuki Ali and army chief General Zamrose Mohd Zain.
Meanwhile, Lee will be among 10 people who will be made Justices of the Peace (JP), together with Sabah tourism minister Jafry Ariffin and former state secretary Sukarti Wakiman.
The state’s second highest award, the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK), which carries the title Datuk, is conferred on a list of 66 individuals, led by Sabah community development and people’s well-being minister Shahelmey Yahya.
Others are deputy home minister Jonathan Yassin, Kota Kinabalu mayor Noorliza Awang Alip, the navy’s Eastern Fleet Commander Sabri Zali, Fifth Infantry Division Commander Major-General Mohd Halim Khalid, Sabah MCA Wanita chief Dr Pamela Yong and Sabah MACC chief Karunanithy Subbiah.
A total of 95 people will receive the Ahli Setia Darjah Kinabalu, Ahli Darjah Kinabalu (233), Bintang Setia Kinabalu (346), Bintang Kinabalu (400) and certificate of honour (142).
